Graduation
Wednesday, September 21, 2005

Tonight was Murdoch’s graduation day. It was at Perth Concert Hall. Went down with our cell people to congratulate Su and Andrew. The place was flooded with people. Saw all the Bachelor certs on at the reception. When we saw them finally come out wearing the largalia, was like it be 3 years down the road before is my turn. Spurs me to work harder for it man. All of them were so happy to graduate and you can see smiling faces everywhere. Families from all over the world coming together to see their loved ones graduate, will hope for the day to come too.
After that, went down to City Garden again to have supper. Was really late when we started eating, about 11.45pm, did not had dinner. Purposely saved up for this meal (lucky had Geraldine’s watercress soup… Thanks!!). Had rice, vegetables, Japanese hotplate toufu, fried squid and Yam Duck. The yam duck’s really good. Think is like the famous thing here, Duck with an outer layer of Yam fried to perfection. Had a good meal and fellowship before heading home.

Talking about the bright side of the moon, today felt much better. Definitely on the bright side of the moon. Got back my papers for Writing for The Media, got HD (High Distinction) for it sia. Was MCQ lah, but got 33/40. So quite happy. Got back my essay for Screen Studies. C++, C means Credit, almost Distinction. Also, for my Screen Production, my first editing assignment got D++. Yeah…. So really happy. Now determined to work harder and perform better…. GO GO GO!

Today was a really depressing day. Just ended a long night in the editing studio. Had a to give a rough cut of our video shoot tml. Had my foundation test today. Was a real disaster. Not that I didn’t study or what but time given was really short. We had to do a summary as well as answer 2 short answer questions. And they are not really short answer actually. 5 marks each and the Summary 20 marks. Total is 30 marks. They work on this system of 1 mark 1 minute. So in the end we only had 30 minutes plus 5 minutes reading time. The article was not really short and not that simple to summarise too. And I am so sure we had less than 30 minutes. I barely finish the summary and 1 question before the time was up. 30 minutes just gone like this. Haiz……… then during tutorial today got back my very first essay. One I put lots of effort researching, reading and writing as well. A disappointing 55%. I think they grade us quite strictly. But least I know I’ve done my best. Well, hope the week will pick up to be better for me! I wanna be on the bright side of the moon!

Had a really tiring but fun weekend. Weijie’s sister, Michelle, and Wendi got married last Saturday. So was over at their house helping them with all the stuff. I’m their official video man, taking down all their happy moments and immortalizing them on tape. Weijie’s parents came down from Singapore as well. Went over their house on Friday, had so much to eat sia. Once I reach there, Weijie’s mum gave me rice and pork for lunch. Then had wraps for tea break. Later in the evening, a massive steamboat again, but quite healthy one, lots and lots of vegetables…ha ha!
The next day woke up early and got dressed by 9am. Got ready to take the first shot once the Bentley bridal car rolls in. The wedding ceremony took place at Kings Park, at a sheltered area over looking the whole Perth City. Although it rained early in the morning, the weather was perfect when the wedding started. It was just a simple ceremony, the exchanging of vows and rings followed by the signing of the certificate of marriage. The main wedding will take place in Singapore in December though. After that, they took lots of pictures before moving to a really nice French restaurant call Frenchy’s. The ambience is really nice, with 40 guests, the restaurant was just nice. We actually had the whole place to ourselves. My first time in a French restaurant, but the food is really fabulous. From the entrée of Caesar salad to the main Pork dish to the dessert banana crepe. Enjoyed every bit of it. To my surprise, the portion is really generous, not “French” at all. Then, Wendi sang a few love songs with his guitar to Michelle. Some sporting Caucasian guests sang too, this was followed by a mass dance session. Even Weijie’s parents dance too. And you know what, it was their wedding anniversary too….how nice is that! They had a really nice wedding cake too. For the custom here, the wedding cake has two levels. You eat the first level and keep the second till your first child is born. After that, then you can eat the cake. Amazing right, heard that the cake is made so can be kept for 1 or 2 years in the freezer…ha ha.
In the evening, went back to take some more pictures before we changed out of our suits and ties. That night, had dinner of pizza and seafood soup…ha ha!
Sunday morning, all of us had a little Sunday service f our own at Weijie’s house. Then, went to have the buffet dim sum again…ha ha! Quite a large group of us went, with both the Wendi’s and Michelle’s family. Yeah… so had a really good good weekend. Tomorrow’s school, off to finish up my assignment….ha ha! Congrats to Wendi and Michelle.

Steamboat

Been having a feast weekend again…ha ha! But apparently all the food eaten are all healthy food. Went to Weijie’s house today to have dinner. His parents came over to Singapore cos his sister’s getting married this coming Saturday. We had steamboat tonight. Just the thing I am craving for. Told myself gotta go to Marina Bay when I get back to Singapore. Pay $10 and whack all the steamboat stuff…Wah! Sohaving steamboat here is cool but really expensive. Like 10 fishballs will cost you AUD$3. While I was there, had the chance to meet Michelle’s (Weijie’s sister) friends too. Got to know Andy, Su Kuan and Charmaine. Me and Weijie thought that Andy looks like Limjui. I think he behaves more like Limjui…ha ha! He’s an SIA pilot….. how cool is that sia!!! My first pilot friend… I’m so excited! SIA totally ROCKZ lah!!! Anyway, had a surprise birthday celebration for Michelle as well. Though her birthday is on the 25 of September, but everyone was present to night and so we had the cake and candles. They bought a cake from Wendy’s. A really nice ice cream cake…. Yum yum! With her name spelt out in CHOCOLATE BLOCK LETTERS!!! *Can imagine some of my chocolate-crazed friends drooling*….ha ha! A good way to end my Weekend!

Saturday night potluck! My first potluck session in Student Village (SV) since I arrived here. Meisi had this crazy idea of getting 20 people to turn up with a dish each. And I must say it was not half bad an idea. I made Bah Kut Teh with Joo, in the process taught her how to cook it too….ha ha! Was quite simple anyway, got the Bah Kut Teh pack from an oriental shop; pop in some spare ribs, garlic and we had a delicious brew cooking. Besides that, we had an assortment of Asian and Japanese food. Half of our friends are from Japan… how cool is that! Maiko made Okonomiyaki (Japanese Pizza), Iyo brought some fried chicken fingers accompanied with a few sauces and Noriko make sushi….yeah! And oh, found out that Yuko knows how to make Chawamushi….. DEFINITELY must learn it from her….ha ha!

Besides that, Joey made some yummy omelet, Lydia had some chicken and Meisi fried some noodles. Of course there were other dishes around. Yeah… had another good time with all my friends. SUGOI!

Cell group today we celebrated Tasha’s birthday. It was quite a surprise for her I think….ha ha! We were supposed to celebrate for both Tash and Jeremy, but my buddy had a wonderful night with his lovely girlfriend at Hog’s Breath instead. (Heard really good reviews about that place…..must try must try). Anyway, Tiffy baked a chocolate cake topped with the oh so sweet strawberries. Tash was a happy girl….ha ha! After Cell, braving the 3 degree cold supposedly night, all of us went to this really nice Turkish-Italian café called Concas to have supper. Chilli Mussels was our goal for the night. This humble looking café served some of the best Chilli Mussels in Perth. It was so good we had 2 go for it. Ordered 2 big steel bowls of Chilli Mussels. Wow…. It was sometime since I had something to tantalize my spicy taste buds! Hot on fire. They came with garlic bread too! The mussels were good and the fellowship was even better. Yeah… had a fun and really cold night! I’ll be going back there for more mussels definitely! Oh gosh…. Did I say I’m buying Happy Meal for Tash and Geraldine??? Hmmm……..

Today still recovering from the pass 2 days of tiredness. Charmaine wanted to waste her patrol cos she just sold her Toyota Celica. So we all went down to North Bridge for a really late night supper. I finally got to sit in Charmaine's sports car.....ha ha ha! Can hear and feel the powerful vroom vroom from inside. We went to this restaurant called City Garden. Chinese restaurant that opens till like 3 or 4 am in the morning. We ordered 3 egg porridge and Yam duck. Both really nice. This City Garden apparently is one of the chain restaurants owned by this guy called Billy Lee. Quite famous in Perth. Foods good and the price is not too expensive as well. Starting to have revelations of more late night eateries.... YES!!!!!

My first official test in 2 years and 4 months. Yes.... it is today. My mid-sem for Writing for the media. Basically we study everthing about writing, pictures, sounds and anything and everything that creates meaning. Yeah.... thes test was 40 questions. 40 minutes. Here in Murdoch, all the test and exams work on this logic, 1 minute 1 point. So if your test in 100 points, literally will last for 100 minutes. Stress at times sia....ha ha! Next Monday got another test again sia.

After that in the afternoon had a shoot for my screen production. We are shooting this short film about this guy who uses the female toilet and was stuck inside. Was fun bt really tiring and difficult to shoot. Mainly because we really have a constrain of space. We gotta take it from really weird angles. The tripod was somehow difficult to work with as well. solid 3 hour plus of continuous shoot. I love it, though is still very draining. But I must say a BIG THANK YOU to Tiffany! *THANKS TIFF!* She was my extra and yeah she did a really great job I must say....ha ha!

Finally and Finally..... after a super long day, the evening is finally here. Went to the movies with my church friends. The girls all wanting to watch Charlie and the Chocolate Factory!! And Johnny Depp!!! They are crazy sia....ha ha! But the movie was good. Johnny Depp carried off Mr Willy Wonka really well. Though I will never forget the cold jokes they made. Never imagined the Americans do cold jokes like us Asians too....ha ha! Think is an international thing...ha ha! After the movie, we drove down to Fremantle to Fast Eddys to have supper. We shared some wedges and talked till about 2 before heading home.

Today is Zen's true birthday date although we celebrated for her with Joey on Saturday already. We surprised her with her favourite mango cake and she was thrilled. All of us camped at Lydia's flat and it worked out beautifully. The cake was good I thought, not exactly mango fruit but just a kind of mango flavoured cream. On top of that gave her a belt as well as a bottle of vodka drink (not sure what it is called).

Then, I had flat dinner again...ha ha! This time our lovely Miss America, Sana, did the cooking. Had an American night with burgers, fries and booze....ha ha! After that, we played a game where we had to pick out questions from a pot and asnwer them. Some questions were quite questionable themselves but we had a good time knowing more about each other. In the end, each of us wrote a line or two about something good about the other person. Yeah.... was really sweet and nice of everyone. After that, had to study for my test tomorrow. My very first test! Wish me luck!

4 of September 2005, Sunday is Father's Day down here in Perth. Wow... and I thought Father's day was universal. We celebrated Father's Day in Singapore in June while Australia's had theirs in September. Since I'm here, I sent a Father's Day card back to my dd as well. It's a surprise, so hope my dad will get it ASAP. Anyway, today went to church and they had a little Father's Day celebration. They made some brownie sort of cake and handed out to all the fathers. Weijie stayed over at my room and went for service together too. Today's sermon topic I found it really good. Is about leaving the wilderness of sin and entering the promise land of God. The promised land is not geographical but that of spiritual. That anyone who believes in Jesus Christ and can enter this promised land for eternity. After church, we all went to this place called Riverton to have KFC. My first time having KFC here in Perth. One good thing is they let you choose which part of chicken. Naturally, thighs were the favourite. The KFC here is more or less the same in Singapore but I think we have better whipped potato. The one I ate today was quite weird, very pasty and kinda sticks together. After that, Sara, Tiffany, Louisa, Geraldine and me went to Utopia to grab some Bubble Tea. My first time having bubble tea here too. Quite expensive, $3, but drank it for the experience. Miss the $1 bubble teas back home....ha ha! I tried one called Spring Love Milk Tea. Found it very milky, don't really like it. Next time I'll get the Summer Milk Tea, think is better. More fruity too....ha ha! And that's my weekend. My first official test coming this week....ha ha! Thank God my really nice lecturer gave us a MCQ paper. But still gonna prepare well for it. Pray for me people! God Bless!

Finally after 6 weeks in beautiful Perth, today went to the famous Cicerello's for dinner. For those that don't know, it's a seafood restaurant in a harbourtown, 15 mins drive from Murdoch University, called Fremantle. The place is just wonderful with the sea breeze and calm waters. The restaurant is just by the waters. I recommend to go during sunset so you can sit by the waters eating fish & chips, watching those leisure boats crusise pass while the entire sky turns into a romantic yellow-red as the sun disappears down the horizon. Today was Joey's ans Zen's birthday so all of us went there to celebrate their birthday. Weijie was real nice to join all of us. We had a ball of a time. Though we got a little lost at first but still found the place in the end....ha ha! Most of them ordered the traditional fish & chips while I tried the fried Sardines. It was good, and the fact that I never eaten sardine this way before. The place was crowded and we had to sit outside amidst the strong winter sea breeze. We went prepared with our own bottle of chilli sauce and tartar sauce (you gotta pay for your own sauces....Haiz). After that, we had a really nice chocolate cake with LOTS and LOTS of sugar *Raine smiling*...ha ha! I removed them, cannot stand too sweet stuff. Gave Joey a watch and butterfly keychain as present. Weijie gave both birthday girls each a balloon twisted flower followed by some of him astonishing card tricks. Amazing for all the girls....ha ha! Was a really fun night and I round up the day treating all of them each an ice cream cone from Hungry Jack's (Burger King)! HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOEY! HAPPY BIRTHDAY ZEN! GOD BLESS YOU GIRLS!
